There are two main methods of rapid cooling after rolling of hot-rolled seamless pipes:
1. Spray cooling method - the spray cooling method refers to the cooling medium ejected from the nozzle to impact the surface of the hot-rolled seamless steel pipe, taking away the heat of the steel and cooling the steel pipe rapidly. Spray cooling methods are divided into outer surface cooling of hot-rolled seamless steel pipes, inner surface cooling and simultaneous cooling of inner and outer surfaces of steel pipes.
For small and medium-sized hot-rolled seamless steel pipes, due to the small inner diameter of the steel pipe, it is difficult to put the header with the nozzle into the pipe, so only external cooling can be used. For large-diameter thick-walled hot-rolled seamless steel pipes, both inside and outside are used to cool them at the same time.
This cooling method has a relatively large amount of water and requires a large spray body power pump. The cooling medium is mostly water, and spray cooling can also be used
2. Immersion cooling method - this method is to immerse the whole hot-rolled seamless steel pipe in the water tank for rapid cooling. This method has a large cooling capacity and the structure of the equipment used is simple. The inner surface of the steel pipe is cooled by a nozzle arranged at the end of the water tank along the axial direction of the steel pipe, which is called the axial flow cooling method. Another method is that the hot-rolled seamless steel pipe is transferred in the water tank while being tangentially sprayed by multiple nozzles to remove the air bubbles generated on the surface and ensure that the steel pipe is straight and cooled evenly.
