Selection of seamless pipe welding method

The selection of seamless pipe welding method should be based on the material and wall thickness of the seamless pipe. Because different welding methods have different arc heat and arc force, different welding methods have different characteristics. For example: Tungsten arc welding is characterized by low current density, stable arc combustion, and good weld formation. It is especially suitable for thin plate welding, but this method is not selected for thick plate welding;

The characteristics of the plasma arc are high arc column temperature, high energy density, good straightness of the plasma arc, its rigidity and flexibility have a wide adjustment range, and its work is stable, but the operation is more complicated;

Submerged arc welding has the characteristics of high penetration ability and high welding wire deposition efficiency, so the welding speed can be greatly improved, the welding cost is lower, but the labor conditions and environment are relatively poor.

It can be seen that different welding methods have different capabilities and different operating costs. According to the material and wall thickness of the seamless pipe, a reasonable selection of the welding method is a very important task to ensure welding quality, improve productivity, and reduce costs.
In addition, it is the same welding method, the type and size of welding current, arc voltage, welding speed, welding materials used, etc., all have a greater impact on arc heat and arc force. Therefore, different welding methods can only be applied to welding of different materials and different thicknesses.

Tips:ASTM A53 covers seamless and welded steel pipe with nominal wall thickness. The surface condition is usually black and hot-dipped galvanized. ASTM A 53 is produced mainly for pressure and mechanical applications, and is also used for transport of steam, water, gas line pipes.
